Got Only 3 Days In Laos? Here’s How To Make It Count

Laos soon but only got three days to spare? Three days may seem like a short time to spend for a vacation. But if you know what to do, where to go, and which activities to try, that short time may turn into a lifetime of memories worth cherishing. Here are      some tips, and things you should not miss, to get your Laos adventure started and make your three days count.

Day 1: Immerse yourself in Laos’ culture.

Learning about a place’s culture and heritage should be at every traveler’s itinerary. Not only does it educate you about the world, outside of your own country, but also widens your perspective about other people’s way of life. So it is just fitting to spend a day immersing yourself in Laos’ rich culture and heritage. Explore the Royal Palace in Luang Prabang, surrounded by lush greeneries and French-Indochinese architecture. Make sure to drop by at impressive stupas including Wat Visoun, Wat Aham, and Wat Mai. End your day with a sunset view at the top of Mount Phousi, a 150-meter hill with over 300 stairs. This is perfect for those who want to have a 360-degree view of Luang Prabang’s golden pagodas.

Day 2: Appreciate nature at its finest.

The great thing about Laos is that it never runs out of incredible nature attractions that can turn your adventure into a relaxing, and sometimes spiritual, journey. A visit to Kuang Si Falls, a three-tiered waterfall that flows through a jungle, will make you appreciate the beauty of the world and soak up the breathtaking scenery in front of you. Vang Vieng, on the other hand, offers a more action-packed experience while being surrounded with nature’s beauty. Choose whether you want to do kayaking or caving. Another waterfall worth visiting is Tad Sae Waterfall, which is regarded to be less touristy than Kuang Si Falls. Here you can try ziplining—or just simply relax with your travel buddies.

Day 3: Go on a food trip.

Traveling to a new place will not be complete without tasting local cuisines and dishes and Lao food is just as good as its culture and natural landscapes. No wonder it’s a norm for locals to ask “Have you eaten food?” or “Kin khao laeo bor?” in its local language. Some must-try dishes are Larb or minced meat salad, often considered as Laos’ national dish. It is made with chicken, beef, or duck meat. Fish and pork options are also available and for a spicier taste, you can add a few chili peppers. For noodle-lovers, Khao Piak Sen should not be missed. Instead of wheat, Khao Piak Sen noodles are made of rice, with its broth being the highlight. Lao citizens are also known to eat more sticky rice than anyone in the world. With this, Khao Niaw, a sticky rice dish steamed in a cone-shaped bamboo basket, is a staple.

Get the most out of your three-day trip to Laos by spending your days based on your chosen activities. After all, no time is too short or too long if you’re learning or enjoying!
